Posts: 64 | hey guys got a couple of questions if anyone can help: first, is the oil pressure gauge in a vl calais supposed to move from low to high whilst driving or pretty much stay stable? mine reads low whilst idling and about 3/4 up when on the throttle.Thought it might be an oil pump prob?
Second, what size rims can i put on without any problems with guard clearance? Im lookin at vy ss 18s and although its stock hight now i will be lowering it.Any thoughts much appreciated!

i have 17" rims and i got yellow stickered for the, but i passed because 17" is the legal limit for the vl. but 18" is one size too big. but, im from perth so laws might be different in whatver state you are in haha.

Posts: 40 | when i went through the pits the bloke told me that it goes by rim size, and that you are only legally allowed to go two sizes upwards. i wouldn't risk anything larger or you will end up in the shits with the police. so yeah, pretty much just roll guards, get proper king-springs or whatever and keep it legal cause if a policeman sees a nice looking VL driving along, more than likely they will pull you over and bullshit you for something like rim size or lowness.

Posts: 64 | yea thats what the guy at the tech section at the pits told me on the fone, he said the rolling diameter cant be more than 15mm from original, and even tho like 17 or 18 are bigger rims the lower profile tyre compensates, thats what the guy at bob jane reckoned as well. but he did say if i was gona put 18s on and lower it id need a swaybar or panhard rod (1 of the 2 i cant remember)cos it would shift to the left. thanks for the help guys.

Posts: 40 | i was being a dickhead going double the limit on marmion ave so they pulled me over and gave me sticker cause apparently my car is too low and the rims were too big?
haha, i went to the pits and the guy said both of those things were fine. the things that he did get me for were:
- previous owner had cut the speaker holes too large in the parcel shelf so i needed to get them welded up and supported.
- i needed to get my springs more secure (pretty much just got insulators for them)
- needed a child restraint clip
and a couple of other little things like that, apparently my pedals are a bit too slippery or something but yeah just small things that are a pain in the arse.
i went to the warwick pits, im actually booked in again for this wednesday to get (hopefully) the all clear. the guy there was actually really nice, and the rest of the guys there seemed pretty cool. i would recommend warwick for anyone in perth. you have to book a week beforehand, but its worth it because you know you have a guaranteed spot.
sorry this post is so long haha.
