good buy?

Hey peoples,

I live in Port Hedland WA, not many cars here of any sort.. just lots 4wd and new late models sedans etc.., anyhow i managed to find a turbo Berlina. . think it might be the only one up here!! :)

anyhow there asking $3g's for her. . with spare complete motor and g/box apparently spares are still good!. with new turbo on the spare motor..

she's a auto, stock as a rock. with i think there 16" hsv rims of some sort. the body is fairly rusted out exspecially round the glass. . however im a automotive spray painter so it'll get restored and sprayed again ,so im not to worried bout that. interior is ok for a 20yr old car.

as for being stock i beleive it's on like 6psi, with a maccas straw of an exhaust.. anyways it is pretty slow. alot slower than i would have thought. . motor sounds clean and reliable no clunks or rattles, turbo gives of a nice clean whistle. but i dunno. ive had turbo cars before and i know that adding a 3" zorst, cooler, and bout 12pound boost will throw ya back. but i expected bit more from a stockie. he said the belts or somethin in the box need changing and thats why it dont move out to good? more info on what the hell he could be talkin bout please!

anyways from all the crap and dribble on above doe's it sound like a good buy?

sorry to bother you's but i got no idea bout VL's at all, all i know is they look F***EN sick with a coat of fresh paint..

any replies would help.. cheers

suppose it kinda seems like it revs little high during the change and a bit jerky. . but to be honest for an old car i was pretty happy with how she drove.

anyways cheers for the help prob be a month or two before i get her.. i'll load you's up some pics when i get it

maybe you's might want some pics and advice after i restore her too..

peace out

Mate thats basically a steal, 3 grand down here will only get u a shitty berlina/exec with a shitload of K's on it.

As for the gearbox, I would get that checked out by your local mechanic or something.

If u want more boost, I say either highflow the turbo you have now, or get urself a GT35/40 turbo, do the exhaust, a nice big plenum and a good frontmount and u should be set...

cheers for the boost advice but i'm pretty sure the old motor wouldn't be too impressed with a 700hp ball bearing turbo strapped to the side of it

all that will come later when the rb26 head goes on. I'm probably gonna go the twin gt25's with 2 speed powerglide. after the bottom gets forged of coarse. . anyhow at the moment funds are limited so it'll need to get me to work and back for a few months first. n goin by my previous exp with cars, the more luv u give em, the more they seem to hate ya for it and F**K you around

Yeah, sounds like an awesome buy. Especially if there ain't too many of em sittin round over there.

I got an excellent buy on mine too. I'm in Brisbane, I'm 16, and I managed to find an '86 VL N/A, full stock, for only $300! It's got a few probs, about 3 cm of rust just below rear windscreen, it didn't have a battery, and in the boot the bracket going across it is total rusted, but just yank it out and drop another one in, and also the boot itself has a bit of rust in it, I'm hopin to god when I scrape it, it's just gonna be surface rust. Also when the engine is cool it misfires, but is fine once it's warmed up, but one of the other topics in the VL discussion said to just whack in a new air flow meter and that should fix it.

So apart from that, I reckon I got a pretty sweet price on it.

One more thing, does anyone have a rough idea on what rego (including plates) would be in QLD for my car?
