Posts: 308 | does any one have a knock sensor if so what happens when you reach detonation.? how does your motor prevent it? or does it just ping off its nut? original turbo motors only!

Posts: 36 | hey mate i have one on mine and as far as i know it is working. i can prob only answer half of ur question but from what i've gathered u should barely know it have one if ur tune is pretty close. u probably already know that they aren't 100% accurate though and any frequency that is the same as the knock sensor will set it off. if this frequency is detected (usually before detonation)the timing is retarded by a max of 5 degrees untill it stops.
Now this part gets a bit sketchy... what does a sudden 5 degree retard actually do under boost? im only guessing but if everything is pretty sensible and u simply enounter a higher than usual load and detonation is going to occur the 5 degree retard will simply allow the motor to run happily in that particular situation where if the boost had been much higher, shitty fuel, no knock sensor at all detonation would occur anyway.. and in the case of the knock sensor the 5 degree retard isn't enough to prevent it totally with the higher boost or watever is causing the detonation in the first place.. If u have any doubts replace it with a new one... that is always the best way if it is a major concern and u can afford it.
