| brake problem | | Dylan Drummond | Posted @ 20 Dec 2007, 2:39pm | Member
Posts: 4 | hey there,
I am currently able to apply max. pressure on my foot brake without the brakes completely locking.
The foot brake feels very spongy and has alot of play.
While the engine is running and the brakes are being heavly applied there is a hissing noise that seems to be coming from near the actual brake pedal itself.
If there is anyone that may now the cause, there reply would be much appreciated.
If rectifying the problem is not a too in depth job, any suggestions would be great.
I have the assistance of the workshop manual if there are any procedures within that would be worth while doing.
thank you very much
dylan

Posts: 191 | The hissing your hearing is your booster, cheats ways out is to get a 2nd hand booster and run a vacuum tank from the booster, just like the XY GT's had, having a vacuum tank gives you more vacuum so instead of pumping the pedal twice then it goes hard, you can pump it 5 or so times before the pedal goes hard when a vacuum tank is fitted.
Check your master cylinder, lines and calipers are holding pressure, inbetween the master cylinder n pedal is a shaft n check it hasnt worn and check your pedal box bushes and anchor pin for wear, hope this helps.
