Are you newly on your Ps, or are did you get your licence before July '07?

If after July '07, you have to make sure your car meets the capacity-to-weight and power-to-weight ratios as well as no performance modifications of any sort to your car.

Best bet is always to call up VicRoads and check out what they say.

Yeah, your best bet will be to call up VicRoads, or even use the contact form on their site.

I've used their site's contact form a few times, and they'll generally get back to you same or next day.
