My air box keeps backfiring and and when i take off it just sits there and for 5 secs spluttering then takes off, what could be causing this

any ideas anyone need to know asap, dont want to drive it like this

Air flow meter it might be f**K**d.

check your throttle body aswell and all your piping.
Good idea to also check your spark plugs and leads if its not any of the above then check.

Your fuel filter or replace it.
Your fuel pump might be on its way out.
Your O2 sensor might be f**K**d.

thanks for that mate, ill have a look at all that when i go up to where it is.

how much would a fuel pump and o2 sensor set me back? cheers

o2 sensor - ya don't need it (helps fuel economy but)

air flow meter - if it was dead u woldn't be able to start it up, or idle

Fuel pump - it would surge when u giv it sum

fuel filter - can only get blocked, undo it blow it out with air-gun

I think it could be ya leads, check them at night & see if they are glowing. if they are replace them. Possibly vacuum hoses on the manifold or a cracked head. They are so so common for cracked heads. I have 3 RB30's & 2 of them have a cracked head & do similar things.

if its the head can i get aftermarket one like yella terra or dont they make rb30 heads

Don't think it would be the head because if it was you would have a milky colour in your oil on the dip stick and radiator. However get a compression test done.

fuel filter most likely.
Afm if it was f**k**d you can start it but it would run like s**t big time. I had a f**k**d AFM and it runned like a pig big time.

If you do have a cracked head look on ebay or wreckers and just have it machined and crack tested and maybe worked while your at it before you whack it back on.

f**K hope its not your head mate its quite dear its more expensive then buying a new motor and replacing your current one.

i have a vl commodor 86 model, i have had an accident last week and the car was working fine until a few days ago for some reason i can not get the car to start i have tryed a few things but they did not help, "changed the battrey, and the starter moter" but still no luck i cant hear the starter moter kick over it is like there is no power going 2 it!.

If anyone has any ideas of wat could be wrong could u plz let me know or have any suggestions

cheers man driving back to adelaide this tuesday hope all goes well then take it straght in for service and replace few things, see how we go

@VL HELL what part of ur car got hit, check the earth wire, when u turn the ignition over does it make any sound or just dead complety

the back passenger end got hit, and it is complety dead no sound exept for the fuel pump, i have reds and power but it just wont start

ihave been told but a few machanics that it could be the ignition barrel but now i cant get the reds anymore could someone plz give me some helpful advice, thanks 4 some helpful tips obserd

Dude try tighten the flow metre more to much air in the intake does that moisture in the airbox itself afm fuked or to much pressure in the airbox put a pod on it if it does the same thing its not ur afm or airbox could be timing spark plugs. N that shit

i got defected on the way home from picking up my beast, the low beams dnt seem to be working and i went out and got new headlights but still nothing high beams an parkers are only working?? any ideas

Yer same problem i turn my lights on parkers go on and pulling the lever back and hibeams go on and my lows come on i got brand new lights all round parkers are crystal hibeams crystal and lows crytal blue

did that fix the problem, coz the sparky is gonna charge me $180 to fix
